OVER 45 YEARS OF SEX CRIMES DEFENSE
Sex Offender Registration is one of the horrible consequences of many of the sex crime violations. It is not just a label. It carries consequences, and subjects you to arrest for even the most technical violation of the law. Many of the sex crimes, if convicted require what can amount to lifetime registration.
Under the law, in Florida, you have to register twice a year. You are placed on a very public Sex Offender list where your address is publicly identified. All your neighbors will know you are a registered sex offender.
The Sex Offender label is even put on your drivers license so every time you have to produce it, you are embarrassed.
There are laws as to where you can live which are incredibly restrictive.
There are laws as to where you can go, what you can do and not do, and incredibly harsh laws with respect to travel. There are strict reporting laws giving you 48 hours to notify the local sheriff if you change addresses, change vehicles, or change Internet addresses, phone numbers.
It is for this very important reason that for our clients we strive to avoid a conviction for a sex crime.
Many times the charges can get reduced to a non sex offense and avoiding the requirement to register is one of our main goals.
If you fail to register a change of address, you will be arrested. If you are late or miss a reporting date,
You will be arrested. The smallest technical violation can have terrible consequences and as a sex offender this will hang over you for life. Successful defense of a Sex Charge is critical.
